Who Are We

We are a newly formed team under the supervision of Dr Tareq Assaf, consisting of over a hundred active members based at the University of Bath. Our whole team is centralised around the MATE ROV Competition, which is an underwater robotics competition designed to highlight the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development. The primary responsibility for developing the drone lies with the core team, comprising mainly second and third-year engineering students. Nevertheless, we take pride in the involvement of team members from all academic years and a range of STEMS disciplines, who play vital roles in the project.

MATEROV

The MATE ROV Competition is a yearly event that involves an international community of learners in an exciting underwater robotics challenge. The competition draws attention to the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development and encouraging participants worldwide to embrace environmental, social, and governance (ESG) initiatives towards creating a sustainable future for our ocean planet. The competition is tasking its community to develop and construct an ROV with sensors and tooling required to support various tasks such as combating climate change, providing clean energy, monitoring ocean health, feeding our growing global population, preserving maritime history, and collaboratively creating the ocean we require for the future we aspire to achieve.
